Furniture Quality Joinery & Mahogany Hardwood Construction

The entire structure including windows, doors and trim, is constructed of pattern-grade Honduras Mahogany, species "swietenia macrophylla", considered the premium hardwood for boat construction, custom windows and doors, furniture, precision instruments, and many other uses where an attractive and dimensionally stable wood is required. Its hardness, strength, and resistance to decay are superior to that of redwood or cedar. The increased strength allows the smallest possible roof and wall framing member sizes for an attractive and delicate structure. The hardness assures that all screw connections for framing, window and door hardware do not loosen with use. Factory three coat priming for both the interior and exterior is provided with finish coats being applied in the field after installation and erection of the conservatory. The roof exterior is provided with a maintenance-free powder coated and baked enamel finish over proprietary aluminum extrusions, flashing, and castings in standard white, bronze, flat black, or dark green colors, custom colors are available.

Mortise and Blind Tenon Joinery

Furniture quality mortise and blind tenon joinery with "West System " marine epoxy gluing is used throughout the structural framing, windows and doors to assure a stable, strong, and weather-tight structure. All conservatories are framed and erected inside our Northwestern CT facility to assure a perfect fit and then knocked down into pre-framed wall and roof sections to facilitate shorter construction times in the field. Delivery of the conservatory to your site, unloading and an inventory of materials is provided by our Colebrook Conservatories installation crew. Structural elements are carefully designed to exceed the required minimum snow and wind loads, and to compliment the structure’s design.

Casement & Awning Windows

For natural ventilation, your choice of large full height Awning Windows, top hinged, up to 50"wide by 71"high, which allow ventilation during rainfall, as well as Casement Windows, right or left hinged, up to 32" wide by 72" high, are provided with low torque crank out operators, tandem operated sash locks and insect screens. French Casement Windows are available with multi-point locking hardware, allowing the center vertical support to be removed creating a larger window opening. Windows are hung directly onto the structural wall framing members to provide the narrowest vertical mullion width between each window. All Fixed windows are provided factory glazed in the same sash frames and trim to match the operable windows, and provide consistent window opening sizes and alignment of all window stiles, rails and muntins. Window and door weather stripping are a silicone rubber material that remains flexible in all temperatures, seals against both the inside face and outer edge of the window or door, and is easily replaced, a feature not that common in most of today’s windows. Motorized operation of both windows and sash locks is available with control by push button wall switch, room thermostat, or hand-held remote control.

True Divided Light Windows

True Divided Light multi-pane windows and doors with 5/8" thick insulated Tempered glass and a minimum 7/8" muntin width are standard. The exterior muntin profile is beveled to appear as a traditional putty glazed window exterior, and the interior muntin profile is an OG with custom profiles and wider muntin widths available to match existing if required. Having a substantial background in the fabrication and restoration of rose church windows, reproduction of any existing window style is available, including beveled edge, stained and leaded glass.

Traditional Ridge Vents

Colebrook Conservatories produces the traditional multiple light ridge vent with insect screens, the latest improvements in high temperature silicone weather-stripping, and optional motorized operation with control by wall switch, room thermostat or hand held remote control.

French Doors & Single Swing Doors

Standard in-swing or out-swing, Single or French Doors, are constructed of minimum 2 1/4" thick mahogany with raised lower wood panels, GU multi-point locking or Baldwin Lifetime Finish polished brass mortise lockset, ball bearing brass hinges with finials, high temperature silicone saw kerf- mounted replaceable weather stripping, and extruded bronze thresholds with a heavy mahogany sub-threshold.
